SALD-2300

Laser diffraction particle size analyzer

The device is designed to measure particle size distribution in the range from 17 nm to 2500 μm and is currently an important tool in quality control laboratories of enterprises in the electronic, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, paint and varnish and other industries. The main unit of the SALD-2300, depending on the objects of analysis, is equipped with modules for conducting «dry» or «wet» measurements, as well as modules for analyzing highly concentrated samples.

Features

  • Using the SALD-MS23 sampling device allows for a wide measurement range. For example, polystyrene latex particles with an average diameter of 50 nm and steel balls with a diameter of 2 mm can be measured on the same instrument.
  • The SALD-2300 can measure samples with particle concentrations from 0.1 ppm to 20 wt. %, and it is possible to assess the dependence of the particle size distribution on concentration. Until now, in order to obtain optimal experimental conditions, it was necessary to adjust the sample concentration (dilution or concentration). In these cases, changes in the particle size distribution were not considered.
  • Since this analyzer has only one radiation source, compared to analogues, the need for calibration is eliminated.
  • The device does not require preparation for startup. Measurements can be performed immediately after turning on the device.
  • The continuous measurement function allows you to obtain data on the particle size distribution with an interval of 1 second.
  • The WingSALD II software provides a function for automatic selection of the refractive index based on the LDR method (light intensity distribution reproducibility), which in the absence of reference data for any objects, including previously unstudied mixtures, significantly simplifies the analysis procedure.

Measuring cells

Flow cell SALD-MS23 comes complete with a sampler that ensures the circulation of samples with high specific gravity (ceramics, metal powders), preventing particles from settling at the bottom of the sampler (particles with a density of up to 7.8 g/cm3), and an ultrasonic disperser ensures the removal of air bubbles. The volume of liquid in the sampler can be set to 100, 200 or 300 ml.

Stationary cell SALD-BC23 made of quartz glass and equipped with a fluoroplastic funnel. The cell is used for working with samples containing aggressive liquids or organic solvents. The volume of the cell is 12 ml, the required amount of sample for measurement is 7-10 ml. Equipped with a stirrer.

Block for working with highly concentrated samples SALD-HC23 are a holder of glass plates, between which a sample with a layer thickness of several microns is placed. This allows you to measure samples with a particle concentration of up to 20%, as well as work with ultra-small sample quantities – approximately 15 μl. This block is an excellent solution when measuring samples that can be diluted. For example, many suspensions and emulsions (ointments, creams, latexes, some types of paints) delaminate when diluted or agglomerate the initial particles in them.

Injection device SALD-DS5 type «Cyclone» for «dry» measurements it has injection nozzles of a special design, which effectively break up the agglomerates present in the powder, which reduces the influence of agglomeration on the final result. Using the injection device, it is possible to measure the size of particles not only of organic nature with a low specific gravity, but also of metal powders and their oxides.
