In 1896, 10 months after Roentgen’s discovery of X-rays, the first X-ray machine was produced at the Shimazu plant. Since then, a new direction in Shimazu’s activities has been formed, namely the development and production of medical diagnostic equipment.
But later it turned out that X-rays could be used with great success in the more traditional field for Shimazu, namely the production of instruments for research laboratories. Today, Shimadzu’s X-ray diffractometers and X-ray fluorescence spectrometers are successfully used for analytical purposes.
