MCT-W series

Microcompression testing machine

The MCT-W series of testing machines is designed to evaluate the strength of microcomponents and microparticles formed during powder processing and fine fibers, ranging in size from a few microns to several hundred microns. SHIMADZU offers equipment designed for factory and research laboratories to meet the growing needs for accurate microcomponent compression testing.

Features

  • Micrometer (optical head). The optical inspection head of the micrometer for measuring the dimensions of a sample placed between two indicators provides measurements up to 200 μm in 0.1 μm increments (with a x50 objective).
  • Lenses. Standard lenses (x50) and additional lenses (x100) are used together with the optical micrometer head to measure length.
  • Sample display during compression (optional). A special optional device allows you to monitor the sample during the test.
  • Microcompression displacement measurement. Possibility of supplying models with different resolutions and measurement ranges (range up to 100 μm with a resolution of 0.01 μm, range up to 10 μm with a resolution of 0001 μm.
  • High test accuracy. Load setting accuracy ±1%.
  • Sliding step. The reference point is selected using the optical head of the micrometer, and then this point is moved slightly below the indenter. The click-stop mechanism ensures precise positioning of the specimen. The positioning accuracy of the device is within ± 5 μm (± 0.2 μm can be achieved with careful handling).
  • Vertical step shift knob. The scene moves smoothly with a single handle.
  • Loading unit. Possibility of supplying equipment with a load range from 9.8 to 1950 mN or from 9.8 to 4900 mN. The electromagnetic method used in the unit ensures high loading accuracy.
  • Device status indicator lights. A red light (RUNNING) indicates that the instrument is loading and the operator should not adjust it, while a green light (READY) indicates that the operator can safely operate the indenter.
  • Possibility of testing at high temperatures (option). Tests can be performed not only at room temperatures, but also in the range from 50 to 250 ° C.
  • Indentors. The following indenters are available: Flat indenter with a diameter of 50 μm (standard); Flat indenter with a diameter of 500 μm (optional); Triangular pyramid indenter with an angle of 115 ° (optional). (This indenter is used for tests when the sample is larger than 500 μm and cannot be broken under a test load of 4900 mN).
  • Lower pressure plate vice. This ergonomic vice securely holds the lower clamping plate. A standard micrometer is then used to adjust the stage over a range of 25 mm in the X-Y direction in 0.01 mm increments.

Available test modes

  • Compression test: The force is increased until the specimen breaks or a specified load is reached.
  • Load-unload test: The force is increased to a specified maximum load point and then decreased to a specified minimum load point. By measuring the difference in displacement between the maximum and minimum points, the percentage of recovery of the specimen can be calculated.
  • Cyclic test: The test force is repeatedly increased and decreased up to 250 times to evaluate the fatigue of the specimen.

Areas of application:

  • Ceramic particles
  • Finely ground metal powders
  • Rubber particles
  • Pigments
  • Food powders
  • Pharmaceuticals (microcapsules)
  • Ultrafine fibers
