The Japanese instrument-making company SHIMADZU was founded in 1875 (the 8th year of the Meiji era) in Kyoto. Its founder, Genzo Shimazu, was convinced himself and sought to convince others that the reforms launched at that time, which radically changed the life of the country, should have one feature – Japan, as a country deprived of natural resources, could succeed only if science was prioritized. Implementation of this approach required maximum efforts to disseminate scientific knowledge.

It was this activity that G. Shimadzu decided to pursue. At that time, Kyoto, which was still the capital of Japan, had an industrial testing center and a number of educational institutions for which Shimadzu began manufacturing laboratory equipment.

A year later, in 1877, G. Shimadzu received an award at the first National Industrial Exhibition, and in 1882 he compiled and published a catalog of scientific equipment that included 110 instruments. Production began to develop rapidly.

Today, SHIMADZU is one of the largest instrumentation corporations with annual sales of more than $3.3 billion. At the same time, analytical instruments are sold annually at the level of USD 2 billion. This allows SHIMADZU Corporation to be one of the three world leaders in the production of analytical equipment for many years.

In addition to plants in Japan, SHIMADZU Corporation has production facilities in many countries around the world. Thus, SHIMADZU analytical equipment supplied to Europe, including Ukraine, is manufactured at plants in Japan, the USA and the UK.
All the plants of the corporation have a strong human resources potential, which allows to perform research and development at the highest level. SHIMADZU is deservedly proud that its laboratory employee K. Tanaka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002 for developing a methodology for the mass spectrometric analysis of macromolecules.

K. Tanaka is the only Nobel Prize winner in the history of Nobel Prizes to work in a plant laboratory.

The high level of development and perfection of production technologies ensure the high quality of SHIMADZU products. Reliability and efficiency of SHIMADZU analytical equipment along with their high technical characteristics are the basis for the company’s motto in analytical practice:
